Search Engine Terms

“divergent dystopia”, “tris anti hero divergent”, “divergent characters based on enlightenment” -Okay, I’m not sure what that last one had in mind, but it’s interesting how my very first non-test post keeps showing up in searches.

“anime challenge pets” – Okay, sure, I guess someone might search for that specifically.

“super robot wars og theme song” – Not entirely sure which one you meant, but here are the two most likely:

In keeping with the crossover theme of this week’s posts, here is ROCKS, the theme from the PS2 SRWOG games, in a decidedly non-OG video.

And here’s the full version of MAXON, the OP from the anime series Super Robot Wars OG: The Inspector, with a crossover picture.

“is project x zone canon” – I think so, but I didn’t go into much detail there.  This might get long.

Crossover Chaos: Project X Zone

This is the opening to Project X Zone, a crossover SRPG for 3DS, featuring characters from Namco, Capcom, and Sega.

Actually, it’s both the English and Japanese openings; same animation, different music due to an issue with licensing the Japanese song. I don’t really like either song nearly as well as the one from Namco X Capcom, but the animation, by Studio Trigger, is incredible.

As you can see from the video, everything I mentioned here has also crossed over with a whole lot more: Sakura Wars, Shining Force Exa, Space Channel 5, Super Robot Wars Original Generation, God Eater and more.

Crossover Chaos: Types of crossovers

Television crossovers are the most analyzed, but other media have a tendency to take things even farther.

Using the broadest definition of crossover (and still excluding fanfic, obviously), there are surprisingly few separate groups of things that are in crossovers within small groups; depending on your definitions, everything that has a crossover at all can be connected to nearly every other crossover.

Other media can be more complicated about it than television tends to be, so before getting into comic books and video games let’s divide crossovers into categories:

Awesome Music Thursday: SKILL

Super Robot Wars is a long-running series of crossover strategy RPGs made by Banpresto. Crossover between, for the most part, mecha anime, and occasionally mecha manga, light novels, or video games. (And occasionally series that aren’t really mecha; it turns out Tekkaman Blade is perfectly able to keep up with the likes of Mazinkaiser and Dancougar without one.)

Mecha Size Comparison Video

I saw this video in Japanese a while back, but now YouTube user MetroidSuperFan has translated it into English. It shows size comparisons of a lot of mecha, robots both real and fictional, astronomical objects (the mecha get really big), and various other objects for reference.

30 Day Anime Challenge Day 7: Anime Crush

“Your anime crush”

excellen_browning_15730

Excellen Browning from Super Robot Wars OG: The Inspector. Well, technically, she’s originally from Super Robot Wars Compact 2, but that’s a game, not an anime.

She’s carefree, flirtatious, and always ready with a joke, but not above pulling out blunt honesty when it’s called for.  Somehow she stays that way after almost dying, getting brainwashed, and finding out she’s part Einst.

Top 21 craziest anime/game hair: 21-16

Hair in anime and video games can be any color of the visible spectrum and defy the laws of physics.

This is my list of 21 of the weirdest, most unrealistic, or just plain crazy examples of hairstyles in anime, manga, and video games.

(It was going to be top 20 but then I remembered an obvious one and didn’t want to take anyone off the list.)

a fiery redhead with hotblooded sideburns

#21. Cutie Honey

Though her original incarnation technically wasn’t a magical girl, this android is close enough to be considered the prototype of the “magical girl warrior” subgenre that includes Sailor Moon and Pretty Cure.

And she’s on the list because she’s a girl with the same kind of sideburns as every other Go Nagai protagonist.
