There’s a reason I don’t do many reviews, but once I started this one I wanted to finish it.
This is an true masterpiece of anime! The legend of the unsinkable fortress of steel, which is made of the indestructible Chogokin ZETTO!! Its name is…its name is…its name is Mazinger Edition Z: The Impact!.
(Probably still better known as Shin Mazinger Shougeki! Z Hen.)
Let’s get the boring stuff out of the way. I bought the DVD release by Eastern Star (Yes, there is one blatant subtitle error.), which has the entire series. The only language option is Japanese and the only subtitle language option is English subtitles, and the only extras are clean openings and endings. The packaging is nice enough.

It’s a little difficult to fully explain the greatness that is Mazinger Edition Z, but I’ll probably try eventually, after I’ve seen the whole series. But to put it simply, what I’ve seen so far is even better than what I’d expected from the hype.
I’m not sure who’s the biggest ham; Juzo Kabuto, Dr. Hell, Zeus, or the narrator.
And it’s only fitting that great anime should have great openings. Here’s the first one, Kanjite Knight by Ultimate Lazy for Mazinger. I cannot get this song out of my head.

I just ordered some anime DVDs, including a preorder for Mazinger Edition Z: The Impact!, a series whose English subtitle release had originally been announced with the title Shin Mazinger Z Impact, which seems to make more sense in English even with a word left untranslated.

“Anime you want to see but haven’t yet”
A lot, but if I had to narrow it down to three:
Shin Mazinger Z Impact – The modern reimagining of the original super robot.
Kill la Kill – The first series made by Studio Trigger, who also made the short Little Witch Academia, and was founded by the series director of Gurren Lagann. Credentials like that that make me confident that Kill la Kill’s place as one of the most popular anime of the last few years is well deserved.
∀ Gundam (pronounced Turn A Gundam) – I am fairly certain this is the best Gundam series I haven’t seen and I’ve seen quite a few people call it the best Gundam series period.
As the start of what I hope to make a weekly feature, here is a video featuring a song that I think is pretty awesome; the second opening of Shin Mazinger, “The Guardian” by JAM Project.
