Song Challenge Day 25: Acoustic song

“An acoustic song you love”

How about four? I just happened to find this medley around the time I needed to decide what song to use here. It’s JAM Project, unplugged and playing the instruments themselves. The songs are “Fire Wars” (Mazinkaiser), “Nageki no Rosario” (Gravion), “STORM” (Shin Getter Robo vs. Neo Getter Robo), and “DRAGON” (New Getter Robo).

Song Challenge Day 20: On an upcoming album

“A song from a new album you are waiting for to come out”

I really don’t keep track of what’s coming up very much, so I didn’t choose this from a very wide pool. But I do happen to know that “Kessen the Final Round” will be on JAM Project’s next album. (The same group three times in four days? Maybe I should have shuffled the order of the challenge.)

This song is from Super Robot Wars Z3 Tengoku-hen. The song, the game, and this video are all epic.

Song Challenge Day 19: Obsession

“A song you’re currently obsessed with”

I thought about various short-term obsessions, but ultimately decided to go with one that’s lasted long enough I can be sure it won’t change between now and the end of the challenge. (Several of the other songs I considered are my picks for other days.)

I first heard this song about three years ago, and I am still obsessed with it. The only reason I haven’t featured it in “Awesome Music Thursday” is because I wanted to save it for a special occasion. I have been known to listen to this song on a loop. When I feel really down and need to motivate myself, I listen to this song.

The song in question is “GONG” by JAM Project, the theme from The 3rd Super Robot Wars Alpha.

It doesn’t start at the very beginning of this video by InfringementMAN, but it has the lyrics.

Song Challenge Day 17: Hearing live

“A song you like hearing live”

I don’t go to a lot of concerts. And trying to find a favorite out of those songs I have heard live, I’m kind of drawing a blank here.

Instead, I’m going to name songs I wish I had heard live, which are mostly the ones that really get my blood pumping. I would have really loved to have been there for this recent performance of “SKILL” by JAM Project, but, you know, I’m not in Japan. Yeah, they’ve still got it.

Mazinger Edition Z is epic

There’s a reason I don’t do many reviews, but once I started this one I wanted to finish it.

This is an true masterpiece of anime! The legend of the unsinkable fortress of steel, which is made of the indestructible Chogokin ZETTO!! Its name is…its name is…its name is Mazinger Edition Z: The Impact!.

(Probably still better known as Shin Mazinger Shougeki! Z Hen.)

Let’s get the boring stuff out of the way. I bought the DVD release by Eastern Star (Yes, there is one blatant subtitle error.), which has the entire series. The only language option is Japanese and the only subtitle language option is English subtitles, and the only extras are clean openings and endings. The packaging is nice enough.

Awesome Music Thursday: Kanjite Knight

It’s a little difficult to fully explain the greatness that is Mazinger Edition Z, but I’ll probably try eventually, after I’ve seen the whole series. But to put it simply, what I’ve seen so far is even better than what I’d expected from the hype.

I’m not sure who’s the biggest ham; Juzo Kabuto, Dr. Hell, Zeus, or the narrator.

And it’s only fitting that great anime should have great openings. Here’s the first one, Kanjite Knight by Ultimate Lazy for Mazinger. I cannot get this song out of my head.

Awesome Music Thursday: STORM

Shin Getter Robo has probably become the most iconic Getter robot, while the Dinosaur Empire are still the most famous Getter antagonists. The only series that has both of them is Shin Getter Robo vs. Neo Getter Robo. And in addition to this ultimate match up of hot-blooded vs. cold-blooded (yes, I know, but nothing else is scientifically accurate either), it also even managed to make Texas Mack cool.

It also has a theme song by JAM project, which is always a good thing.  “Energetic” would be an understatement; this song has too much high power, man!
